Taking a Peek

This is my final, for now anyway, version of this barn owl.  I am pretty happy with the shape of the face and the color of the fur.  I still wish the colors would have blended together a little better...it was a tough balance to find.  I would like to paint some more owls, maybe try one that is a little more abstract and further away.  Something to look forward to!  Now, as President Bartlet from The West Wing would say, what's next?

    "Owl" that owl! In French when you say "Owl" it means that it's great! then "Owl" Bravo!

    Thank you! I need to work on bark - I would like it to have more texture for better contrast with the softness of the owl. I suppose there will always be ways to improve and that is what keeps it interesting.

    Thank you everyone! I need to work on bark - giving it more texture. I struggled with some other things, too. But when I gave this to my coworker, Spencer, who loves barn owls, his reaction wiped out any insecurities I had about the painting. It's so easy to get obsessed with the flaws in things we create when it really is the thought that counts to most people. I think he was really touched by the gift and that made it all worth it.
